An electric-vehicle conversion company Electrogenic from the UK is expanding to the US

Electrogenic, a UK-based company that specializes in converting classic cars into electric vehicles, has teamed up with companies in Vermont and Texas to offer electric vehicle conversion services to classic car enthusiasts in the United States who want to drive electric vehicles.

It is announced today that two new companies have joined Electrogenic’s global installer network, including TATC in Dorset, Vermont, and Xerbera in Dallas, Texas. The partnerships will allow Electrogenic to introduce its UK-engineered conversion kits for the first time to customers in the US through first-ever distribution agreements. The use of this technology will enable classic car enthusiasts in the US to convert from gasoline to electric automobiles.

We will be able to fit by way of TATC and Xerbera a range of “drop-in” EV conversion kits manufactured by Electrogenic, an Oxford-based company designed to provide plug-and-play technology in an electric drivetrain for vehicles.

With its nut-and-bolt restoration workshop, TATC is renowned for its excellent work on Land Rover Defenders, so it is fitting Electrogenic’s electrification kits to the much-loved Defender models. It will also be able to run the Jaguar E-Type and Triumph Stag.

This brand-new 2WD Defender conversion and restoration package will be offered by Xerbera, a company known for re-engineering custom Land Rovers and restoring them, as well as offering conversion and restoration packages for other vehicles. The company will also perform electrogenic conversions of Jaguar E-Types, Porsche 911s, and other classic models of cars, using the Electrogenic system.

Besides manufacturing its own technology, Mercedes-Benz also manufactures its own software, printed circuit boards, digital dashboards, as well as battery management systems, and vehicle charging technology with in-house designed hardware. The driver interface also gets attention, with sport, eco, and traffic modes, as well as a regeneration-based hill-descent control function for the Defender.

Furthermore, Electrogenic’s drop-in kits come with a patented system for producing high-density battery packs, which are manufactured in the UK, as well as in-line and transverse reduction gearboxes that are compact and reliable. The neat packaging solutions for these “drop-in” kits ensure that for every variant of a “drop-in” kit, the existing structure and architecture of the vehicle are preserved as it was before the product was installed. In order to ensure the reversibility of all Electrogenic conversions, this approach was taken.

There are 8 different conversion kits in total, all of which are driven by a fixed-ratio, single-speed transmission, and are capable of providing AC charging up to 6.6kW, as well as rapid CCS charging.
